My home is strewn with half-completed paintings that have been waiting for inspiration to show up and reveal how to finish them. Rhonda’s post on uncertainty echo the words that circle in my mind as I look at those canvases. The stream of doubt runs deep sometimes: my work doesn’t look like the other painter’s work, this looks like a mess, how do I know if it is good enough, should I even keep painting.
Those sentiments also flow over into writing. Is this post good enough, what are the other people writing about, look how many likes they are getting, are enough people reading my posts.
Those thoughts are exhausting and when left unchecked, I do agree that uncertainty kills creativity.
So I went searching for the perfect inspirational quote by an artist to put in this post and end it on a positive note. After wandering the internet much too long, and forgetting at one point what I was looking for, I finally decided that I didn’t need to go see what all the other artists were saying. Looking to use that perfect quote by someone else is a little like trying to create a painting or post that is like the ones every one else is creating. They may be good, but the work isn’t mine.
